A series of gender workshops have been delivered by a group of feminist artists studying at Central Saint Martin's in an ongoing collaborative project. Beginning in 2017, the group have most recently participated in the Tate Modern's Tate Exchange: Studio Complex with Central Saint Martin's in January 2018.
In response to Vikki Chalklin's seminar series "Thinking Through the Body", the project aims to deliver fun, immersive experiences that facilitate gender deconstruction through dress-up, dance and play. The concept is based on queer theory and drag sub-culture, un-leashing the alter ego from the subconscious. Functioning as workshops, events, performance and participatory installations, each variation of the project has been delivered to public audiences with the intent of spreading understanding and awareness of non-binary and queer identities.
Drag Dress Up Box was experienced in the Street of Central Saint Martin's for one day during January 2017.
The Closet participated in the Tate Modern's Tate Exchange: Studio Complex with Central Saint Martin's during January 2018.
The gender workshops have been received with resoundingly positive response. The project is ongoing.
